Skype is one of the first peer-to-peer communication apps to perfect their concept. It’s one of the very first video messaging services to make it mainstream, till this day no other video messaging app has given the same amount of content that Skype has offered.
Skype is one of the few tech companies that have survived for more than 10 years, and managed to remain unique and original; throughout the years of its existence even after Microsoft bought the company Skype has remained the same. Nothing much can be said about the dedication and details the team of Skype has put into their software. Skype has put a considerable effort into getting every phone integrated with the service among these are iPhone, Blackberry, Android, and much more. But what most people don’t know about Skype is that it isn’t limited to peer-to-peer video calling, but it also offers group calling, voice chatting, and text messaging.
How to register Skype account?
To sign up with Skype you will be asked to give your name, country, and email address. But since Microsoft purchased the Skype company, You can now sign up with your Microsoft account. Entering the Skype software will now be easily accessible through your phone. And you will now have access to some of the best call quality you can get. Navigating through the Skype menus is easy, and getting from one feature to the other is simple thanks to its amazing design. The call feature is at the bottom of the screen, in which, you will have a dial pad and one for chat. To exit out of any menu option you simply slide left or right. Everything is easily accessible on any platform using the Skype app and everything can be reached. There are 3 tabs that you will navigate the most. These are People, Favorites, and Recent. People allow you to roam through your contacts, and Favorites are for those special people in your contacts that you need easier access to. And Recent is self explanatory (Everyone you recently called).
Calls using Skype:
Video calling is what Skype is known for, and throughout the years, video calling has became anonymously known as Skyping someone. This is where Skype shines. The call quality has been leading the pack for years and with the constant updates it just keeps getting better and better. There isn’t any other service that can compare to it except for iPhone’s Facetime, but Skype is still useful for iPhone users for the fact of multiple connections through video calls. You will be able to make long distance calls with outstanding voice quality. And at times, the voice quality can be compared and contrasted to some of the largest mobile phone networks like T-Mobile or Cricket. The video quality is amazing and with little lag depending on the callers Wi-Fi connection. And if you have more than one friend you can have numerous connections through video calls. These connections doesn’t seem to slow down the overall connection of everyone’s else. Even if one person WI-FI is considerably slower than others, the connection level itself out so only his/her connection is slower. The voice only call is cheap costing only 2.3 cents for on the go calling, and 13.99$ a month for worldwide. Much like the video calls, voice calls are equal in quality and connections overseas can be outstandingly clear for the most part.
Texting using Skype:
When speaking of Skype texting is rarely mentioned, but many people overlook Skype texting services and they shouldn’t. The texting feature feels complete and not tacked on. It have a wide array of Emojis ;not as much as Facebook messenger but enough to keep conversations different and elastic. This also features a group chatting feature which can have as many as 200 people chatting in one chat room at once. And the best thing is this don’t kill your battery. You can choose to turn on and off notifications so if your chat room does become busy, the constant notifications doesn’t constantly interrupt you. This doesn’t have an Administration feature so if someone is being rude or saying bad remarks no admin can decide to kick him out. However, you can have a group vote to kick him/her out if they are being to much of a nuisance to someone. But you do have a list of the members in the said chat room and can choose to block/ignore whoever seems to be getting on your nerves.
One of the greatest peer-to-peer communication apps of all time. It have the best voice quality and video quality you can get from any other app. It have a simple layout and navigating through all of the features is a breeze. This is in no doubt of my mind, the best communication app that you can download on the Android. The app performs beautifully for Android.
The iOS version UI is a tad more cleaner than the Android version. Aside from that both versions are very much alike.
There isn’t an administration for chat rooms which can be a problem when their are rude people in the chatroom. And you can’t make emergency calls.
You might feel a bit conflicted to use Skype or use Facetime using your iPhone. Even though Skype has more options when it comes to video chatting, Facetime is much easier to use and access due to it being integrated with iOS.
Does Skype still reigns supreme? Yes, Skype has been around for over 13 years and still holds up as one of the best communication apps of all time. It has the best call quality and the best video quality you can’t get from any other app.
